The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines is a 28-year-old tribute to what excellent executive and board leadership can achieve. Originally built with private funds, it annually provides more than 250,000 Iowans the opportunity to experience live performing arts. When the Civic Center needed to conduct their first campaign for a comprehensive set of renovations and upgrades in 2003 – they chose RGI. Working in partnership with board and staff, the campaign exceeded its $7 million goal and provided the funds necessary to provide patrons with a 21st century going theater experience.

And they did, in 2011 when the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines began investigating the potential to renovate Nollen Plaza, they called Renaissance Group to carry out an condensed feasibility exercise and subsequent remote counsel.
Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation needed help in 1998 to develop a much needed area Hospice House to serve Ames and surrounding area. Early projections indicated the home would never operate with revenues alone and would eventually need an endowment to sustain its future operations. RGI worked with the foundation to prepare the Ames community for a successful capital campaign to construct the Hospice House. Then three years later, RGI was retained to assist in Phase II, the feasibility study and fundraising campaign for endowing the Israel Family Hospice House.
Since that time Mary Greeley Medical has engaged RGI to provide both pre-campaign and campaign counsel in the support of a $129 million renovation and expansion to their facilities.
Located in the fast-growing Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor, the City of North Liberty has experienced tremendous growth during the past decade. In an effort to provide appropriate services to a growing community, the city initiated a 20-year master community development plan for a central community center including library, gymnasium, meeting rooms and aquatic center. RGI was selected to provide a major community education initiative as part of a feasibility study in advance of the bond referendum and capital campaign for Phase I (including the initial community center and library). As Phase II and III of the project (expanded community center, aquatic center, and expanded library) have developed, RGI has been there every step of the way, continuing to provide directive services in support of additional feasibility studies, community education in support of additional bond referendums, and campaign counsel. The original 20 year plan will be completed approximately seven years ahead of the original schedule.

RGI worked with the religious and lay leadership of Westminster Presbyterian to conduct a comprehensive Pre-campaign Process and a subsequent capital campaign securing more than $5 million in support of various capital needs. This faith community of more than 700 families worked hard every day to meet their shared goals and RGI's experience augmented their hard-work and good intentions.

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden has been a visual icon across the Des Moines landscape for more than 30 years. In 2011 the Friends of the Botanical Center sought counsel to investigate the community support for a project in the amount of $10 million. Following the Pre-Campaign Process, RGI continued to provide counsel for a campaign that to-date has brought in private funds numbering nearly $11 million to support the goal of $12 million. The remaining funds have been secured through public contributions and a generous gift from the Vision Iowa Community Attraction and Tourism program.
The Good Neighbor Society has served families Delaware County for nearly 50 years. In 2011 they unveiled a new Memory Care Unit designed to specifically care for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementia causing illnesses bolstered by a successful capital campaign. The campaign and ongoing annual fund planning included the counsel of Renaissance Group and RGI has recently begun another campaign project in Manchester.
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity retained RGI as part of their feasibility study planning process and subsequent capital campaign to reinvent the way Habitat operates in Des Moines. A once in a lifetime opportunity presented itself through the opportunity to purchase a facility that would meet all the area needs of the organization, including the creation of a new and improved Re-Store. RGI worked with Habitat staff and volunteers to adapt to the changing needs of the organization as public and private funds met to complete this endeavor.

Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity
Renaissance Group, Inc. was initially contracted with Lutheran Life Villages to implement an Annual Fund Development Planning Process. That process uncovered the need to begin a series of capital campaigns throughout their organization. RGI worked with LLV to design a strategy that will maximize their potential to raise funds in support of their various capital needs. Currently LLV is engaged in the second successful campaign phase providing new and enhanced opportunities for the aging in Ft. Wayne, IN. Counsel has included significant efforts to utilize Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and Planned Giving Counsel in addition to traditional campaign counsel.
Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center Avera became a client for RGI in early 2011. Following the first few months of the campaign it became very clear that the leadership and culture of philanthropy in Sioux Center is exceptionally rare and sacrificial. Following a campaign, utilizing RGI's highly personal approach, Sioux Center has raised nearly $12 million for construction of a new hospital. This feat was accomplished in a community boasting a population of less than 8,000.
St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama sought the counsel of Renaissance Group in 2011 in preparation for a campaign to construct a Parish Hall/Community Center in town. Having worked with Josh Faber on a successful effort in nearby Westphalia, Rev. John Dorton was comfortable with the RGI approach to campaigns and was able to complete both the Pre-Campaign Process (feasibility study) and subsequent $1.2 million capital campaign within nine months. Volunteer efforts were outstanding throughout the process and bring to light the value of committed, trained volunteers for successful fundraising efforts.
A beacon of hope for the social service industry in the greater Siouxland community Crittenton Center has provided care and direction to women and their children for over 100 years. Renaissance Group was initially brought onboard with Crittenton to help them talk through the direction of the organization for the future, to determine concrete staff roles and implement an Annual Fund Plan.
Lutheran Social Services of Indiana have been helping families in Northeast Indiana for over 110 years. RGI has helped devise the funding strategy for the last several years and assisted in developing staff and board capacity through several personnel transitions. The relationship RGI has with LSSI and the greater Fort Wayne community goes much farther past the standard role of consultant and client. Renaissance group has formed a second home in the Fort Wayne community, thanks in large part to the recommendations and referrals that were provided by our LSSI friends.
YESS has helped kids and parents be families since 1973. From its beginning as a small drop-in center for teens, YESS has grown into a well-established and highly regarded agency designed to keep children safe and families together. Wanting to move their development efforts to the next level, YESS engaged RGI to conduct a Development Audit to evaluate current development strengths and identify opportunities for growth. The audit and subsequent RGI Annual Fund Development Plan has served as the roadmap in more fully engaging the board in development activity and in significantly expanding the development program.

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Foundation made it a priority to increase planned giving in 2011. They sought the counsel of Renaissance Group, Inc. to make this happen. With the area's foremost expert in planned and deferred gifts, Nancy Stefani, RGI was able to provide a seminar for a select group of DMACC Foundation friends and provided counsel on the back-end of her engagement to match donor expectations with DMACC funding opportunities.
Having been part of the Diocese of Des Moines family for more than 30 years, Nancy's insights and expertise in gift planning have provided opportunities for parishioners make gifts to their church and various other ministries creating a lasting effect. Nancy conducts regular Charitable Gift Annuity seminars for individual diocesan parishes.
When the Mercy Foundation needed to revitalize their planned giving strategy they called Renaissance Group. With the area's foremost expert on planned and deferred gifts on our staff, area organizations interested in bolstering their efforts and knowledge in planned gifts have worked with Nancy Stefani. RGI worked to create a seminar package for Mercy including a series of educational opportunities for a select group of constituents. As a follow up, Nancy makes herself available to meet with specific potential donors to help them work through which option will allow them to give the most they can to the organization of their choice, while doing well for themselves in the process.
